Sabine Lake of Pleasure Island, Sea Rim State Park and Keith Lake are a few places to drop a line. Look what the Salt Water Angler’s League of Texas – Sabine Chapter has planned for its 45th annual Memorial Classic tournament:

The Stan Armstrong Memorial $ 1,000 Grand Prize, sponsored by Cheniere, is the big draw in the 45th Annual S.A.L.T. Memorial Classic May 25th & 26th, 2019, on Pleasure Island at the S.A.L.T. Club.  Grand Prize drawing is selected on Sunday at the awards starting at 3 pm.

This Salt Water Angler’s League of Texas – Sabine Chapter tournament, with about 75 sponsors listed in the program book, offers cash prizes in the adult division for: Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Croaker, Blackjack Redfish, Redfish with the Most Spots, Released Alive Flounder bonus and 3 Ladies’ bonus pots for Heaviest Redfish, Trout & Flounder. In addition, and New for 2019 are 4 offshore species added to the Adult Division – King, Ling, Jack Cravelle and Dorado.   Adult payout places has increased from 25 to 52 places for 2019. Many fish categories are paying 5 places (offshore species, Redfish, Trout & Flounder)

There are also 8 fish categories in the “free Junior (Kids) Division.  Kids prizes are rod and reels for all 1st place winners and trophies for first thru 4th place winners.  Each Kid may only win one place per fish category.  Dropped Hardhead, Gaftop and Sand Trout for 2019.  The 8 categories are Redfish, Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Croaker, Saltwater Perch and Crab.  Prizes or trophies to 32 places.

Weigh-in will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25th and 11-2 p.m. Sunday, May 26th at the S.A.L.T. Clubhouse, 900 T.B. Ellison Parkway on Pleasure Island.   Anglers will gather at 3 p.m. Sunday, for awards, trophies and door prizes. There will also be a drawing for many door prizes.

The S.A.L.T. Club, a Not For Profit 501c-3 organization, has a goal of introducing youths to the sport of fishing, while teaching them about conservation of fisheries and natural resources.  The group has a free kids-only tournament on the second Saturday in August. Cash and trophies go to winners with three age groups and three fish categories in each age group.

Members help with Cheniere’s Wounded Heroes Tournament in Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, the first Saturday in October. The Sabine Chapter also helps with Heroes on the Water tournaments, which help wounded service men and women. They also coordinate fishing outings for nursing home residents and groups for mentally challenged individuals and conduct weigh-ins for other tournaments, such as Port Neches RiverFest, Upper Coast Kayak Anglers, Curefest & Texas A&M tourney.
