Krewe History
The Mardi Gras krewe tradition began along the Gulf Coast in the 1800s. These social organizations became known for creating themed parades, floats, masked balls and other festivities. Today, krewes continue to preserve Mardi Gras traditions while also supporting their communities through service, fellowship and celebration.
Now, Mardi Gras Port Arthur is proud to build a new tradition in the Cajun Capital of Texas, celebrating the culture, hospitality and spirit that make our community unique.
Join the Parade(s)
Be part of the excitement by entering your krewe in the Friday, Saturday or Sunday parade. Mardi Gras Port Arthur offers a limited number of rental floats, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
To ensure a safe and successful family-friendly parade, each krewe must follow all Mardi Gras Port Arthur and City of Port Arthur rules and guidelines.
Krewes are Responsible for Providing:
- A non-drinking driver and tow vehicle
- A generator to power the float
- Beads and approved throws
- Non-drinking Float Guards wearing safety vests who will walk alongside the float to help protect spectators
