The Art Museum of Southeast Texas
500 Main St, Beaumont, TX 77701
Showcasing some thousand works of art, including paintings, sculptures, folk art and photography, this museum in Beaumont’s Museum District exhibits masterpieces from notable artists, including hand–blown glass pieces by Dale Chihuly, as well as drawings by John Alexander and paintings by Paul Manes, both Beaumont natives. One of the museum’s most popular collections is by Felix “Fox” Harris, a local, self-taught artist known as the “Voodoo Man.” Harris created totem pole–inspired sculptures out of scrap materials, saying he was following God’s directive to “make somethin’ out of nothing.”
