Lamar State College Port Arthur is home to the $5.1 million Carl A. Parker Multipurpose Center.
Capacity
The 47,000-square-foot building, which opened in January 2004, houses two classrooms, a fitness center, a dance studio, faculty offices, a multi-purpose gymnasium and a reception center. The gymnasium can seat 1,400 people for athletic events. The gymnasium also serves as the venue for the College’s graduation ceremonies as well as community events such as the annual Gulf Coast Gala and Valero Kids Fest.
History
The building was named in honor of former State Senator Carl Parker, a Port Arthur native who has a long-standing connection with the college.
