St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica

Old World beauty at St. Anthony  Basilica 

Look up to the heaven-inspired dome, note the detail in intricate mosaics and read the stories in German and French stained-glass windows. St. Anthony Cathedral celebrated its 100th anniversary Jan. 28, 2007. In 2006 Pope Benedict XVI granted St. Anthony the designation of Minor Basilica, one of only four in Texas.  

In 1879 pioneer priest Father Vitalus Quinon built St. Louis, a small frame church at Bowie and Orleans streets. Then in May of 1895, the church was moved to its current site. In 1903 the cornerstone was laid for a new church, completed in 1907 and dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua. The renovated basilica features a baldachino, and a Carrara marble altar. 

Visitors are welcome for guided tours during parish office hours.
