September 14, 2019

Fiesta Girl

Fiesta time!

Folklorico dancing, pageants, food, music and cultural events make up the 51st Mexican Heritage Fiesta in Port Arthur.

Where and When

Mexican Heritage Fiesta – September 14, 2019, 9:30 a.m. to midnight. Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center, 3401 Cultural Center Drive.

What to Expect

This year’s Fiesta will include the Mexican Heritage Society Folklorico Dancers performing authentic traditional dances from the states and regions of Mexico, in their vibrantly colorful costumes. A Parade of Costumes will showcase different states and regions of Mexico. Among the entertainment will be live Mariachi, a dance band, food vendors and children’s activities.

For 51 years Fiesta, which commemorates Mexico’s Independence from Spain, has kept the Mexican culture alive in Southeast Texas by sharing the beauty and history of Mexican heritage at this much-anticipated  event.

Opening Ceremonies at 10 a.m. kick off “FIESTA 51” celebrations with a welcome by Port Arthur Mayor Thurman “ Bill” Bartie and the presentation of the Colors.

The Children’s Costume Contest will follow.  Festivities throughout the day include pageants and crowning of five queens and a Mr. Jovencito King, and the society’s own Folklorico Dancers in vibrant and colorful Mexican costumes, dancing traditional dances from various states and regions of Mexico.

The Mexican Heritage Folkloric Dancers will dazzle attendees with their foot work and swirling skirts, a must for everyone to enjoy, as they are the pride of Southeast Texas, organizers say.

Evening entertainment will feature a Promenade of all Fiesta Royalty, DJ Music, and the musical sounds of the  “Reyes Locos & San Marcos.”  Dance the night away and try for prizes.

Admission fees for the entire event will be: $5 for ages 11 to 17; $5 for seniors $10 for Adults; free for children 10 and younger when accompanied by an adult.
