“This summer marks 50 years since a 23-year-old from Port Arthur moved to San Francisco to become a pioneering female rock star,” is the lead-in for “Piece of My Heart: Janis Joplin’s Texas Roots.”

Michael Corcoran shares her story in the August, 2016 issue of “Texas Highways” magazine, in a spread featuring a list of Port Arthur stops and other sites significant in her life. Shannon Brady’s illustration and photos by Will van Overbeek and Brandon Jakobeit tie the spread together.  Get a glimpse of a replica of Joplin’s psychedelic Porsche featured at Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur.

Here’s more from the feature:

“Joplin is among the musicians featured in the Museum of the Gulf Coast’s Music Hall of Fame, along with legends like George Jones, Johnny and Edgar Winter, swing trumpet great Harry James, and the Big Bopper.”
