Catch of the Day: Where to Cast Your Line This Summer
Cast Your Line!
Charter a boat or launch your own in Port Arthur’s Sabine Lake this summer. It’s more than 60,000 acres, no deeper than 8 feet and sits in two states. The Texas side boasts Pleasure Island, also great for spotting our famous shore and wading birds.
“We catch lots of redfish year round,” Capt. Randy Foreman of Randy’s Guide Service, said. “We have a great system of tidal waters that bring in lots of fish from the gulf and the fishing is great. We have 14 miles of shore line to fish that holds bait fish. Shrimp move into the lake in the spring and leave in the fall.”
Fishing hot spots for on-your-own catches include:
- Pleasure Island’s piers and jetties in the Pleasure Island Marina area.
- Walter Umphrey State Park: Fish from Texas and get a view of Louisiana from here.
- Sea Rim State Park: The park offers family shore fishing and crabbing clinics in the summer.
- Keith Lake boat ramp, toward Sabine Pass.
Going for the big ones? Charter a boat. Capt. Randy’s Guide Service is one of several charter guides who can get visitors to the fish they dream of.
“We supply all tackle, rod and reels and artificial bait. We will fish where they are biting,” Captain Randy said.
