Marker Unveiling and Events
The Sabine River and Sabine Lake region is where captive African children, women and men first disembarked after the voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, known as the Middle Passage.
The African American Cultural Society will present three days of Middle Passage Port Marker Events:
* Dec. 1 – 2-4 p.m. – reception meet and greet, The Press Building, 548 Fourth Street, Port Arthur, Texas
* Dec. 2 – 10:30 a.m. – Port Marker Unveiling, 5th floor of City Hall, 444 Fourth St. (Moved from “Popeye” Holmes Park) Port Arthur, Texas
* Dec. 3 – 11 a.m. – Israel Chapel AME Church, Freeman Ave., Port Arthur, Texas
