Juneteenth Flag Raising and Lunch in the Park
June 6 @ 11:00 am
Celebrate Culture
The African American Cultural Society will host Port Arthur 2022 Juneteenth events. Join the community in raising a flag. The event will be at 11 a.m. on June 6, 2024, before Juneteenth. Gather at the Jefferson County Sub-Courthouse, 525 Lakeshore Drive.
Because this is near our beautiful seawall, look out to the waters to check for seagoing vessels. For info, call (409) 983-8300.
Recognition
County Commissioner Michael Shane Sinegal’s office brings recognition to Juneteenth as the day slavery finally ended in the United States. Dancers, poets and writers are invited to share talents.
Library display
Want to learn more? After you attend the flag raising, next head to the Port Arthur Public Library. They will present a Juneteenth display throughout the month. Certainly, this will include stories of music, cultural foods and pride. Carolyn M. Thibodeaux, children’s librarian, is a coordinator for the African American Culture Society.
