The African American Culture Society arranges festivities that include a parade with activities from 3 p.m. at Barbara Jacket Park.
- Sunrise Grand Rising silent tribute, boardwalk, 500 Lakeshore Drive.
- 3 p.m. – Fun in the Park, 100 Gilham Circle
- Marcus Garvey Juneteenth Torchlight Parade – 6 p.m., June 19, Stillwell Boulevard to Barbara Jacket Park (lineup at 5 p.m.).

Here’s some history
Do you know the history? On the 19th of June, 1865, enslaved people in Texas learned the Emancipation Proclamation was signed long ago, on Jan. 1, 1863. Because of this, they discovered they were supposed to have been freed. Texans historically observe this date with various cultural celebrations.
