Texas Artists Museum: What a Concept!
The new Concept Gallery has allowed more artists to make the walls at Texas Artists Museum in Port Arthur.
“Now more artists have their own space to display art. It gives everybody exposure, and we’re happy about that. The art is for sale,” Nadine Kebodeaux, board president, said.
Texas Artists Museum earned a Hearts for the Arts award for the Concept Gallery. Kebodeaux accepted the Southeast Texas Arts Council honor at a reception at Beau Reve Fine Dining.
Instead of single-artists shows, the Concept Gallery is divided into more spaces for more artists. TAMS features new displays and receptions on Sunday afternoons every three months. The next reception will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9.
“We have a lot of wonderful artists in this area. It makes us feel bonded,” Kebodeaux said of the gallery. “It gives so many people an opportunity to show their art.”
In other Port Arthur arts news, Dr. Keith Cockrell, director of theater at Lamar State College-Port Arthur, earned a Hearts for the Arts award for his longtime work in area theater.
“The growth of the theater department under his direction was a major factor in the decision to construct the beautiful Linda and Sam Monroe Performing Arts center on campus,” the honor reads.
