Club part of Port Arthur’s seaside community \nCome learn more about S.A.L.T. membership at the clubhouse from noon to 2 p.m. March 5. \nPleasure Island’s Sabine Lake\, abundant marshlands and the Gulf of Mexico at Sea Rim State Park are popular with avid anglers and those with brand new sea legs.  \n“Sabine Lake and common estuaries offer some of the best fishing in Texas\,” Max Smith says.   \nHe knows what he’s talking about. He’s served as president of the The Salt Water Angler’s League – Sabine Chapter.  Redfish\, trout and flounder are Sabine Lake hits.  \nThe League hosts the Annual S.A.L.T. Summer Classic on Pleasure Island. Speckled trout\, redfish\, flounder\, black drum\, sheepshead\, croaker\, and blackjack redfish are the focus.   \nThe S.A.L.T. Club\, a Not For Profit 501c-3 organization\, has a goal of introducing youths to the sport of fishing\, while teaching them about conservation of fisheries and natural resources.  The group has a free kids-only tournament on the second Saturday in October. Cash and trophies go to winners with three age groups and three fish categories in each age group.   \nMembers help with Cheniere’s Wounded Heroes Tournament in Johnson Bayou\, Louisiana\, the first Saturday in October. The Sabine Chapter also helps with Heroes on the Water tournaments\, which help wounded service men and women. But you know what they say about doors closing and windows opening!\nThis year our Taste of Summer will include food vendors of ALL types offering samples of their select dishes and beverages. Look for  local vendors\, entertainment for kids including face painting and a Touch-a-Truck event\, door prizes\, a silent auction that has everything from outdoor grills to a boxing glove signed by Sugar Ray Leonard\, live music and a beer garden! DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Sabine Causeway 5K!\nThis is a pure bridge run starting in Texas\, crossing over to Louisiana\, and back to Texas\, TWICE!  The entire 5K will be on the bridge. Talk about bragging rights! \nDetails\nRace registration fee is included in the price. There are no surprise registration fees. \nThe flat fee is $30 a person\, whether you register one person or 10 people. The more people you register at one time\, the more money goes towards the charity. \nBecause of a bridge closure\, there will be a 1 hour time limit. Every person who has attempted the event has finished! \nWalkers are welcome. \nSafety\nWalkers and runners should provide their own hydration. \nGive Back\nThe event is hosted by Supporting Humanity in Motion\, a 501(c)3.
