The Mexican Heritage Society will host its 47th Annual “FIESTA” on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center, 3401 Cultural Drive in Port Arthur, Texas. For 47 years, “FIESTA”, which commemorates Mexico’s Independence from Spain, has kept the Mexican culture alive in Southeast Texas by sharing the beauty and history of our heritage at this much-anticipated yearly event.
Opening Ceremonies at 10 a.m. kick off “FIESTA 47” celebrations with a welcome by the mayor of Port Arthur, Deloris “Bobbie” Prince and the presentation of the Colors. The Baby Costume Contest, showcasing newborns to 3-year-olds modeling traditional Mexican costumes, will follow. Festivities throughout the day include lively traditional music, an array of delicious food, face painting, prizes and pageant coronations in various categories culminating with the crowning of Miss Mexican Heritage 2015-2016, a recipient of an MHS scholarship.
