Texas Highways, the Travel Magazine of Texas, features the Sabine Pass Lighthouse, which the U.S. Navy built in 1857 to protect major ports. Laurence and Patricia Parent wrote in “Sentinels of the Sea” and Laurence Parent photographed lighthouses in Texas.
“Although the light lies on the Louisiana side of the Sabine River, the best view of it is from Texas,” the story reads.
“For the best view, drive south of Port Arthur to the village of Sabine Pass and take Farm-to-Market 3322 past Sabine Pass Battleground State Historic Site,” the story continues.
The Port Arthur Convention & Visitors Bureau suggests visitors in the area also enjoy Sea Rim State Park for a Gulf of Mexico experience with marsh side paddling trails and a stop at Sabine Woods for birding.
