The Clifton Steamboat Museum and Metalforms, LTC will present a lecture and field tour on May 9. Wayne Motts, chief executive officer of the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, Pa., will deliver the lecture, to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Clifton, 8727 Texas 124 in Beaumont. Motts will provide insights into the battle, Sept. 8, 1963, where a ragtag band of Dick Dowling’s men bested Union gunboats. A $75 registration fee will include transportation to the battlegrounds in Sabine Pass.
Option for the History Buff on a budget: For $5, join the group at 9:30 a.m. on May 9, 2015, at the Clifton Steamboat Museum to hear Wayne Motts, CEO of the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA discuss the battle of Sabine Pass and the display of Dick Dowling’s sword on loan from the National Civil War Museum. This option does not include the Battle Field Tour, travel or lunch. Dick Dowling’s sword will only be on display until May 29 at the Clifton Steamboat Museum, so don’t miss your chance to view a rare piece of SETX and Civil War history.
