Port Arthur and gumbo go together. Saturday, Feb. 11, is the day you can have your fill of both.
Rotary Club of Port Arthur assembles gumbo cooks from area restaurants and civic clubs so guests can get a taste for a good cause. The Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center will be the site for tasting, and proceeds go toward Rotary causes.
Enjoy gumbo and other tasty tidbits from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“Restaurants, caterers, organizations and individuals come out to see if they can bring home the trophy for best Gumbo. This year we have a few new teams that are ready to shake things up,” Janie Johnson, club president, said.
“The vendor booths include a wide variety of items including clothing, skin care, jewelry, home décor, wreaths and powder coated & personalized drink ware. That is just a sample of the showcase. Along with the craft show, a silent auction and door prizes will keep things interesting and fun,” Johnson said.
A $10 ticket at the door gets you all your tastings.
After you’ve tried ‘em all, consider a walk on the boardwalk in downtown Port Arthur and get a glimpse of the Rotary International Avenue of Flags that welcome seafarers to the Port of Port Arthur. That’s just down the street from Museum of the Gulf Coast, where you can get the scoop of the oil-based and nautical history of Port Arthur.
