Pleasure Island Bridge Half Marathon, 10K & Kinsel Ford 2 Mile

They’re back and ready to run the bridge. The one that’s 138 feet over the Sabine-Neches canal. Ready for that? Challenge accepted.

The Port Arthur Convention & Visitors Bureau has a Huggle head wrap in it for you! Mark your calendar for early morning Nov. 5 for the Neighbors Emergency Center Pleasure Island Bridge Half Marathon, 10K & Kinsel Ford 2 mile event.

Port Arthur’s Pleasure Island, an 18.5 mile long man-made body of land, extends from the mouth of the Neches River on the northwest to the Sabine Causeway on the southeast and is surrounded by Sabine Lake and the Sabine Neches Intracoastal Waterway.

Half Marathon and 10K participants take on the challenge of the Martin Luther King Jr. bridge at 5,032 feet in length and 138 feet above the Sabine-Neches Canal. The 2 miler participants will enjoy the speed of a flat, fast course. Join the Sports Society for American Health in the national fight against obesity. There’s a distance for everyone. If you can walk two miles, you can take steps toward the cause Amie and Richard James, organizers, say.

Check the run web site for incentives including finisher’s medal and tech shirts. Hampton Inn & Suites Port Arthur is the host hotel. Visit early to view the route and enjoy Pleasure Island’s waterside scenes of boats and birds. Museum of the Gulf Coast is another Port Arthur attraction you’ll want to enjoy with the family.
