Join “27 of the most beautiful princesses and one proud queen” at the CavOILcade parade, 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.
Betty Legnon, a CavOILcade organizer, said young people are a major part of the celebration of Port Arthur’s oil industry. A marching band, drill team, the newly-crowned queen and her court will parade from the 1500 block of Procter Street toward the 100 block, Legnon said. Visitors are invited to join the area’s residents in the 64th year of CavOILcade.
The celebration began in 1953 when Port Arthur proclaimed “We Oil the World.” The coronation, conducted a week before the parade, awards scholarships to senior girls and their escorts.
The parade will leave Lamar State College – Port Arthur area at 1500 Procter Street.
The Queen’s Scholarship Coronation will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Dr. Sam and Linda Monroe Performing Arts Center at Lamar State College-Port Arthur Theater. Tickets are $25.
