Free family fishing day Birders and nature lovers visiting Port Arthur have an extra incentive to enjoy Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, June 6: It’s Free Family Fishing Day! Head out from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the only day of the year Texas allows fishing and crabbing without a license. The refuge will offer live bait, poles, crabbing nets and line. It’s everything you need to fish and crab, along with volunteers and staff to help with all things fishing and crabbing.
Need help baiting and identifying? They’ve got it covered. If you’re lucky enough to make a catch, the staff will help you remove it from the pole and offer general instruction for fishing and crabbing along the way. They can show how knots are tied. Visitors may bring their own poles. It’s a chance to enjoy the refuge and visitors center at Frozen Point, off FM 1985. Look for give aways, games, crafts, tattoos and more.
