The Fourth of July will be explosive at Lamar State College-Port Arthur when the school joins forces with the City of Port Arthur and Motiva Enterprises for the annual celebration of American Independence.
The free family event will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, inside the Carl A. Parker Multipurpose Center, 1800 Lakeshore Drive in Port Arthur.
All-American fans will find activities for kids and adults, live entertainment and much more, including free ice cream provided by Motiva. Food trucks will also offer a variety of culinary delights, so bring along a few dollars.
The big fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m. just outside on the seawall. Bring your lawn chairs and remember, there is plenty of free parking.
What to do in Port Arthur until 7 p.m. on the fourth? The beach is also an all-American favorite. Visit Sea Rim State Park for sandy fun along the Gulf of Mexico and rent a kayak on the marsh unit side to get up-close to nature.

Museum of the Gulf Coast will be closed on July 4, so plan your excursions July 3 and 5. Elandon Roberts of Port Arthur was just inducted into the Museum’ s Sports Hall of Fame. The museum also features history and music exhibits, and it’s where Janis Joplin fans can get a look at a replica of Joplin’s psychedelic Porsche.
