Talking up trout, redfish and flounder abundant in Sabine Lake and free family shore fishing lessons at Sea Rim State Park made everyone want a Port Arthur-Beaumont guide. We handed out info on our natural beauty at the 41st annual Houston Fishing Show and we’re ready for anglers to hit the water, boaters to land at Pleasure Island Marina and birders to hit Sabine Woods and the beach. Chester Moore, outdoors writer and editor of Texas Fish & Game Magazine, is a longtime advocate of Sabine Lake fishing, off Pleasure Island in Port Arthur. He stopped by our booth right before his flounder seminar at the show. Marcus Heflan and Donald Crane talked about the family bonding and lifelong love of fishing they like to inspire at regular shore fishing clinics at Sea Rim and Capt. Lindy Hebert shared stories of his luck at Lake Sabine.
We want to lure you into a Texas fishing vacation, beach time, and enjoying our Jefferson County area on the upper Texas coast as much as we do. Heflan says you can get your share of trout by shore fishing. You don’t even need a boat.
“We have everything right here in a handbasket,” Heflan said about Port Arthur fishing. “There’s so much fishing out there, it’s unreal. I absolutely love it.” The Elite Redfish Tournament Series will fish Sabine Lake off Pleasure Island Marina in April.
Here’s what Chester Moore of Texas Fish & Game, and Port Arthur News outdoors writer, has to say about our area:
* Sabine Lake is home to the state’s strongest flounder population and is home to the state record fish, a 13-pounder since 1976 when Herbert Endicott of Groves caught a truly massive fish.
*The Sabine area produced the state record redfish. *Sabine Lake has a strong speckled trout population and is considered by many to be the top spot for trout on the Gulf Coast for the last two years.
*Pleasure Island provides many miles of bank fishing opportunities where anglers can catch speckled trout, flounder, redfish, black drum, sheepshead and alligator garfish.
*The fishing pressure on Sabine is much lower than that of the Galveston Bay complex.
Sea ya in Port Arthur!
