Did you drive your motorcycle to Port Arthur? Get a blessing! The Port Arthur International Seafarers’ Center will have an April 4 celebration at 10 a.m. to honor the 20th anniversary of this event. The Annual B.J. Stelly Bike Blessing & Fun Run typically draws 400 motorcycles to the Seafarers’ Center on Holy Saturday, for a blessing to kick off the motorcycle riding season. The event is named in honor of a former volunteer driver, B.J. Stelly, who was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident 19 years ago. This event helps raise funds for the center to support crews from visiting ships. Watch the motorcycles, enjoy the live band and get a bowl of gumbo or two, encourages Doreen M. Badeaux, center president. For more information on the Bike Blessing, or to register, purchase T-shirts, patches, pins, etc., check out the following page: http://www.paseafarercenter.org/Page21.html Also, mark calendars for the National Maritime Day, May 22. A luncheon will follow a 10 a.m. ceremony at the Seamen’s Memorial Sundial on Lakeshore Drive. The center is at 401 Houston Avenue. Again, that motorcycle in Port Arthur ought to take you on a drive to Pleasure Island for birding and a view of Sabine Lake. Or, head out toward Sabine Lake and get to Sea Rim State Park. That view is a blessing.
